1:1 Teaching Assistant – Year 3 (ASD & ADHD)
Location: Havering
Contract: Full-Time (Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM)
Parker Smith Inclusion is working in partnership with a warm, inclusive primary school that is looking for an exceptional 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a bright and engaging Year 3 pupil with ASD and ADHD.
The school recognises how vital consistency is for this student’s progress and is seeking the right person to provide daily, structured, and compassionate support that helps her thrive both academically and emotionally.
The Student
This role involves providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with an EHCP related to ASD and ADHD. The pupil is bright and capable but benefits from consistent structure, calm guidance, and clear boundaries to help maintain focus and positive engagement throughout the school day.
You’ll work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to deliver targeted support, using strategies that are already in place and tailored to the child’s needs. The right candidate will bring patience, emotional resilience, and a nurturing but firm approach, helping the pupil to thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent 1:1 in-class and out-of-class support, ensuring the pupil can access learning throughout the day.
- Use calm, clear language to de-escalate situations and guide the pupil back to task
- Support during lunchtimes and playtimes (approx. 30 minutes daily), promoting positive peer interactions and inclusive play
- Work in close partnership with the class teacher, SENCo, and wider staff team to ensure a consistent and cohesive approach to support
- Support the wider class when appropriate as the pupil is able and benefits from being included as much as possible.
You will be
- Calm and Reliable – able to maintain composure and consistency in challenging moments.
- Firm but Fair – confident in setting boundaries while remaining kind and understanding.
- Empathetic and Nurturing – ideally with a natural, caring quality that helps children feel safe.
- Calm and steady – able to handle difficult situations with professionalism and bounce back quickly.
- Professional and respectful – able to connect with pupils in a supportive way while keeping appropriate boundaries in place.
Experience supporting children with ASD and/or ADHD is highly desirable, as is a background in primary or SEN settings.
Why Join?
This is a genuinely rewarding role for someone who wants to make a tangible difference in a child’s daily life. You’ll be supported by a caring staff team, receive tailored guidance from SEND specialists, and play a key part in helping this student maintain their progress and confidence.
If you’re an experienced, compassionate Teaching Assistant who thrives on helping children overcome challenges and grow, we’d love to hear from you!
