You already know that supporting young people with Autism is not something you can do on autopilot. It takes consistency, patience, and a genuine effort to understand how each individual experiences the world. In return, you deserve a school that shows that same level of care to its staff. Not every setting gets that balance right. This one does.
This specialist school in Hounslow supports pupils aged 3 to 16 with Autism and SEMH needs. Many pupils also present with ADHD and social communication differences, and every student has an Education, Health and Care Plan. A number of pupils experience high levels of anxiety and may have faced trauma, so the school takes a calm, structured, and therapeutic approach where personal development is just as important as academic progress.
The school is well-resourced and intentionally set up to allow staff to do their best work:
- Small class sizes with strong adult-to-pupil ratios
- Individualised learning and therapy plans for every pupil
- Close collaboration between teaching and therapy teams
- Supportive leadership that prioritises staff development
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you will play a central role in each pupil’s day. You’ll support learning in the classroom, help pupils regulate their emotions, build trusting relationships over time, and work closely with teachers and therapists to deliver personalised support. For many pupils, consistency is key, and your presence will make a real difference.
You won’t be left to figure things out alone. Ongoing training and development are built into the role from day one.
This school welcomes candidates from a range of backgrounds. What matters most is your attitude, resilience, and ability to build meaningful relationships. Relevant experience may include:
- Psychology, education, criminology or related graduates
- Personal experience with Autism, ADHD, or trauma
- Youth work, mentoring, or community support
- Residential or children’s care experience
- Supporting young people with anxiety or behavioural needs
School-based experience is not essential. If you have transferable skills and a clear motivation for working in this field, your application is encouraged.
This is a long-term role with a genuine pathway to a permanent position. Start dates are flexible, with opportunities available immediately or from September.
