SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism, SLD & Complex Needs

Location: Stanwell
Pay: £90–£100 per day (PAYE only)
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Start Date: ASAP or next half term


This is a specialist SEND role – not a general TA position

This role is for people who genuinely want to work in SEND and understand what that really involves.

The setting supports children and young people with a range of needs including:

  • Autism / ASC

  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)

  • ADHD

  • Communication needs (including non-verbal)

  • Sensory processing differences

  • Emotional regulation and associated behavioural needs

Pupils may require high levels of adult support, including emotional, sensory and personal care support.


What you will be doing

  • Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups

  • Supporting non-verbal and minimally verbal pupils

  • Using communication strategies such as PECS, visual supports and Makaton

  • Supporting sensory regulation and emotional regulation

  • Helping pupils to access learning at their level

  • Supporting transitions and routines

  • Assisting with personal care and physical support where required

  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary SEND team

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils


This role is not for everyone

This is a demanding role. Some pupils may become dysregulated. Some require personal care. Some days will be emotionally and physically tiring.

This role is not suitable for someone looking for a general classroom role or a short-term stopgap.

This role is for people who are genuinely committed to SEND and want to build meaningful experience.

We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience such as:

  • SEND Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant

  • Autism, SLD, PMLD or SEMH school experience

  • Care assistant or support worker experience

  • Children’s residential or respite care

  • Youth work, mentoring or behaviour support

  • Psychology, education or health and social care backgrounds

  • Lived experience of SEND (family or caring responsibilities)
