SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism & Complex Needs
Full-Time | Term Time Only
£90–£100 per day (PAYE only)
Hounslow
Start Date: ASAP
This is a specialist SEND role supporting children and young people with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH needs, and complex learning difficulties including SLD and PMLD. Many pupils experience communication barriers, sensory processing differences, emotional dysregulation, and trauma-related behaviours.
This setting supports pupils who need consistency, structure, emotional safety, and adults who genuinely understand them.
About the Setting
This is a specialist education provision supporting pupils with significant additional needs. Class sizes are small. Support is structured. The focus is on communication, regulation, independence, and functional life skills as much as academic progress.
You will be working alongside experienced teachers, therapists, and SEND professionals in a highly collaborative environment.
The pupils here are not “challenging”. They are children whose needs require adults who are calm, emotionally intelligent, and steady under pressure.
The Role
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
-
Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
-
Assisting non-verbal pupils using visual supports, PECS, and alternative communication strategies
-
Supporting sensory regulation using structured routines and personalised strategies
-
Helping pupils manage dysregulation safely and respectfully
-
Supporting personal care where required
-
Encouraging independence and life skills development
-
Recording progress and behavioural observations accurately
-
Working closely with teachers and the wider SEND team
There will be moments that are physically and emotionally demanding. Some pupils may become overwhelmed, dysregulated, or withdrawn. You need to be the adult who remains calm, consistent, and professional.
What This Role Requires
This role is only suitable for individuals who have:
-
Genuine SEND experience (professional or significant personal experience)
-
Strong emotional intelligence
-
Resilience and the ability to stay regulated when a child is not
-
A real interest in SEND as a career pathway

The ability to build trust slowly and consistently
If you are exploring education casually or looking for general classroom experience, this will not be the right fit.
