Every day you will need to enter the school with a smile and be the welcoming face to the pupils and peers, showcasing your passion for education, play and empathy for others around you. You will have the ability to be flexible and helping others around you when they need it, using initiative and ability to think on your feet every day!
What does a day working as a SEND Teaching Assistant look like?
The school day starts at 8:30am, and your job is to prepare the day ahead, working in a team of TAs to ensure that all learning areas are ready for the arrival of students. Some students could arrive by bus and you may be requested to support pupils transition from transport to the classroom. Then the morning routine begins, Circle Time, Carpet Time or Bucket Time to prepare the learners for their day.
The Morning Routine is an essential part of the day for you to check the students wellbeing (Zones of Regulation) as well as creating structured lesson plans for the day which could include; Communication, Phonics, Numeracy, Literacy, Sensory Stories.
At Lunch Time pupils could require assistance to the lunch hall or could independently access this, it's your job to assist where you're required - they can also access lunch clubs such as sensory or reading. You have a 30 minute lunch break either in the staffroom or off site, but it's important to time keep to make sure you're back in the classroom ready to welcome the pupils for their afternoon learning.
Afternoons can be more creative, encouraging creative outlets, story time, PE or independence, then preparing for the students to go home by 3:30pm. One day a week you will be required to complete CPD Training and stay until 4pm.
If you think this working day sounds like something you would like to be part of then I want to hear from you.
