SEND Therapy Assistant - Camden

Camden, Central London
£95–£110 per day, depending on experience
Full-time | Long-term

I am recruiting a SEND Therapy Assistant to support pupils who benefit from additional help with communication, regulation, independence and access to learning.

This is a school-based support role rather than a qualified therapist position, and it would suit someone who enjoys the therapeutic side of SEND education and wants to develop practical experience alongside teaching and specialist staff.

You may already be working as a SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Therapy Assistant or SEND Support Worker, or you could be a graduate considering a future career in speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, educational psychology or child development.

What will the role involve?

You will support pupils across the school day and help reinforce strategies recommended by teaching and specialist staff.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting individual pupils and small groups

  • Helping children develop communication and interaction skills

  • Reinforcing strategies around emotional and sensory regulation

  • Supporting fine and gross motor activities where directed

  • Encouraging independence with classroom routines

  • Helping pupils access learning in a way that suits their individual needs

  • Supporting structured intervention activities

  • Recording observations and feeding back to relevant staff

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff and visiting professionals

The emphasis is on consistency. You will help ensure that strategies used during targeted support are carried through into the pupil's everyday school experience.

Who are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people

  • A genuine interest in SEND and child development

  • Strong communication and observation skills

  • Patience and the ability to follow structured guidance

  • A calm and professional approach

Desirable:

  • Previous SEND experience

  • Experience supporting autism or communication needs

  • Experience alongside SaLT, OT or therapy teams

  • A psychology, education, health or related degree

  • Previous work as a Teaching Assistant, LSA or support worker

Formal therapy qualifications are not required for this position.

Why consider this role?

This is a particularly useful opportunity if you want to understand how education and therapeutic support work together.

Rather than simply helping pupils complete classroom tasks, you will develop experience around communication, regulation, independence and functional skills and see how small, consistent interventions can influence a child's wider school experience.

It can also provide valuable experience for candidates planning postgraduate study or professional training within therapy, psychology or SEND.
