A secondary school in Merton is seeking an experienced, proactive, and passionate SENDCo to join their inclusive and forward-thinking team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled SEND leader to shape provision across the school, drive attainment for pupils with additional needs, and embed high-quality inclusive practice school-wide.

The school offers a welcoming, supportive environment and genuinely values staff wellbeing, with excellent incentives including dedicated HR support, regular social events, and wellbeing support/activities.

Conveniently located with excellent transport links and easily accessible from King’s Cross, Stratford, and Hammersmith via the Elizabeth Line and Thameslink, this role is ideal for Inner London commuters.

About the Role

You will develop, lead, and manage the strategy, resources, and practices required to meet the needs of pupils with SEND, ensuring all learners can fully access the curriculum and achieve strong outcomes.

Working closely with senior leaders, teachers, support staff, families, and external professionals, you will oversee SEND systems and provision across the academy while leading and developing a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants and support colleagues.

  • Must be confident enough to model high-quality teaching, conduct observations, and be observed themselves
  • Lead and strategically manage SEND provision across the school
  • The role includes a teaching requirement, with a maximum of 10 periods(out of a 26-period cycle), depending on subject specialism this could be lower
  • Ideally, the candidate should have experience managing complex EHCPs and effective line management skills to embed high-quality provision
  • Beyond technical skills, the school wants someone to take ownership of the SEND department and really care for this area, nurturing the SEND department and focusing specifically on rebuilding transition plans and relationships with KS3 pupils
  • Manage and develop a team of Teaching Assistants and SEND support colleagues
  • Deliver training and CPD to staff, developing all teachers as teachers of SEND
  • Coordinate EHCPs, annual reviews, referrals, and new applications
  • Implement local and national learning strategies (literacy, numeracy, KS3/KS4/KS5)
  • Support inclusive teaching practices across departments
  • Work collaboratively with families and external agencies

You will have the support of a SEND Administrator and Deputy SENDCo, and will be leading a small team of SEND professionals.

Ideal Candidate

  • Must hold NASENCo or NPQSENDCo (or equivalent)
  • Must be a Secondary trained teacher/SEND specialist teacher with a background in teaching in secondary
