SENCO – SEMH & Alternative Provision Academy (All-Through) | South London
Temp-to-perm | Start after October half-term

Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a specialist SEMH and Alternative Provision academy in South London to appoint an experienced SENCO. This is a role where you’ll make a real difference to children and young people who need consistent, skilled support.

About the academy

This all-through academy runs from KS1 to KS4 across two sites and is part of a well-regarded multi-academy trust. It sets high expectations for every pupil while treating each one as an individual. The academy:

  • builds social and emotional development, independence and life skills alongside academic progress
  • uses a restorative approach to build relationships and resolve conflict
  • offers therapy and behaviour support alongside the curriculum
  • has strong community and enrichment partnerships

The SENCO role

  • Lead SEND across both sites, with a large EHCP caseload and a full SEN register
  • Plan and run annual reviews ahead of time, working closely with families, the SEN team and several London local authorities
  • Manage exam access arrangements for SATs and GCSEs in line with JCQ rules
  • Work with outside professionals, including speech and language therapists and counselling services
  • Advise primary families on moving to secondary school
  • Teach part-time at secondary level on a fully resourced vocational course, with flexibility for the right person
  • Keep SEND records, data and paperwork accurate and ready for inspection

You’ll need

  • The National Professional Qualification for SENCOs (NPQ for SENCOs), or the NASENCO award
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience as a SENCO or SEND lead, ideally in SEMH, AP or another challenging setting
  • Strong organisation and confident use of IT and data systems
  • Excellent communication with families, local authorities and outside agencies
  • A calm, confident presence and strong behaviour management
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, the EHCP process and JCQ access arrangements

Why this role?

  • Supportive senior leaders and a clear handover
  • Access to trust-wide and local SENCO networks
  • The chance to shape SEND provision at a school that puts each pupil first
