Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant, Support Worker or Care Professional looking to support students with Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties and complex needs in a specialist school setting?

This is a full-time, term-time role ideal for candidates with experience in SEND, care, autism support, learning disabilities, healthcare, or education, who are passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs.

About the role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and complex needs, including communication, sensory and personal care requirements.

You will play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, develop independence and feel safe and supported within the school environment. Support may be 1:1 or small group-based, both in and out of the classroom.

You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and other professionals to deliver tailored support that meets each pupil’s individual needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism and SLD

  • Supporting communication, sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing

  • Assisting with personal care and medical needs where required

  • Supporting learning activities adapted for complex needs

  • Encouraging independence and life skills development

  • Implementing behaviour and support plans consistently

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students

  • Supporting social interaction and communication development

  • Acting as a calm, patient and positive role model

The ideal candidate

  • Experience supporting children or young people with Autism, SLD or complex needs

  • A calm, compassionate and patient approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • A genuine passion for SEND and inclusive education

  • Resilient, proactive and adaptable

  • Experience in SEND education, care, support work, healthcare or autism services is highly desirable
