Are you passionate about supporting autistic pupils to thrive within a structured and specialist environment?
We are working closely with a specialist school in Enfield, North London, which includes a dedicated autism provision designed to support pupils with a range of additional needs. The school benefits from a modern, purpose-built environment and follows a strong trauma-informed and therapeutic approach, ensuring pupils are supported both academically and emotionally.
The school is currently recruiting for:
Special Teaching Assistant (Autistic Provision)
This role involves supporting a Key Stage 2 pupil within the school’s specialist autism provision. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing consistent, structured and individualised support to enable the pupil to access learning and develop independence.
Experience with sensory regulation and structured routines is essential. You must understand the importance of predictability, visual supports and clear communication strategies when supporting autistic pupils. Confidence in recognising and responding to sensory needs, implementing regulation strategies and maintaining calm, consistent boundaries is crucial.
The role
You will support the pupil both within the classroom and during less structured times of the day, helping to manage transitions, reduce anxiety and promote engagement. You will work closely with teaching staff and therapists to implement personalised strategies and ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
The ideal candidate
You will have experience working with autistic children, particularly within a specialist provision or SEND setting. A strong understanding of sensory processing differences, regulation strategies and the importance of routine is essential. You will be patient, observant and proactive, with the ability to build trusting relationships and act as a positive role model.
Experience using visual timetables, now-and-next boards, PECS, or other communication and structure-based approaches would be highly beneficial.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a supportive and well-resourced specialist setting.
