Specialist Complex Needs LSA

London Borough of Havering
£92 per day PAYE
Full Time | Term Time Only
September Start | Temporary with the opportunity to become permanent

Every achievement looks different in a specialist setting. For some pupils, success might be communicating a need, taking part in a group activity or feeling confident enough to try something new. If you're someone who values these everyday milestones, this could be the perfect opportunity.

We are partnering with a welcoming specialist school in the London Borough of Havering that supports children and young people with a range of complex additional needs. The school caters for pupils with autism, severe learning difficulties, sensory processing needs and associated medical needs, providing a nurturing and structured environment where every child is encouraged to thrive.

As a Specialist Complex Needs LSA, you'll play a key role in helping pupils access learning, build confidence and develop independence. Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff, you'll provide tailored support that meets each child's individual needs throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • Helping children engage in classroom activities through personalised learning strategies.
  • Using sensory approaches and structured routines to promote participation and emotional regulation.
  • Encouraging communication using a range of methods suited to each pupil.
  • Assisting with personal care where required.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe, confident and ready to learn.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to provide consistent support.

This is a rewarding role where every day brings new experiences, challenges and opportunities to make a genuine impact.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is patient, resilient and compassionate.
  • Remains calm and adaptable in different situations.
  • Has experience working with children or young people with additional needs, or has a background in care, youth work, residential childcare, mental health support or psychology.
  • Is passionate about supporting children with SEND and eager to develop their knowledge and skills.

Previous experience within a specialist school is welcomed but not essential. The right attitude, commitment and willingness to learn are just as important.

In return, you'll join a supportive and experienced team that values professional development and provides ongoing guidance and training. This role is ideal for anyone looking to build a long-term career within specialist education.
