A Meaningful Role in a Specialist SEND Environment
Supporting children with complex needs requires patience understanding and consistency. It is about building trust recognising communication in all its forms and helping create the right environment for progress.
We are working with a specialist SEND school in Havering that supports pupils with complex learning needs autism sensory differences and medical needs. Progress in this setting may look different from mainstream education. It may include improved engagement stronger regulation developing communication skills or increased confidence and independence.
The school is seeking calm compassionate and resilient individuals who are interested in developing within a specialist SEND setting as a Specialist Complex Needs Mentor.
What the Role Involves
As a Specialist Complex Needs Mentor you will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally. Responsibilities include
Supporting pupils on a one to one basis and in small groups
Encouraging engagement through sensory strategies structured routines and communication support
Assisting with personal care where required
Supporting emotional regulation using trauma informed approaches
Working collaboratively with teachers therapists and specialist staff as part of a cohesive team
This is a role that can be demanding at times but it is equally rewarding. You will be supported by an experienced team and will not be expected to manage challenges alone.
Who This Role Would Suit
You may already have experience within SEND education or you may come from backgrounds such as
Care or support work
Youth services
Residential settings
Mental health support
Psychology or related studies
The most important qualities are patience emotional resilience and a genuine commitment to supporting children with complex needs.
This position would suit someone who wants to make a meaningful difference while developing their skills within a specialist school environment.
