Specialist Complex Needs Mentor
Havering, East London
Pay: £92 per day PAYE
Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Opportunity: Temporary to Permanent
It's 8 am The school gates haven't opened yet, but you are already thinking about the small wins that could happen today.
Maybe it is the pupil who has been struggling to enter the classroom independently. Maybe it is the child who is finding their voice through communication aids. Maybe it is the student who has spent weeks building trust and today finally greets you with a smile.
In this role, success is not always measured by academic outcomes. Sometimes it is a moment of connection. A breakthrough in communication. A child feeling safe enough to try something new.
Welcome to life as a Specialist Complex Needs Mentor.
Based in a specialist SEND school in Havering, East London, you will support children and young people with complex learning needs, autism, sensory processing differences, and medical needs. No two days are ever the same, and that is exactly what makes this role so rewarding.
One moment you might be helping a student regulate their emotions through sensory activities. The next, you are celebrating a pupil independently completing a task they could not attempt just weeks before.
You will work alongside an incredible team of teachers, therapists, and SEND professionals who understand that every child communicates differently, learns differently, and experiences the world differently.
What You Will Be Doing
• Building meaningful relationships with pupils who need consistency, patience, and understanding
• Supporting learning through personalised strategies and creative approaches
• Helping pupils develop communication, confidence, and independence
• Using therapeutic and trauma informed approaches to support emotional regulation
• Providing personal care where required
• Celebrating every achievement, no matter how big or small
Who Thrives Here?
You might already work within SEND, or perhaps your experience comes from:
• Care or support work
• Residential childcare
• Youth work or mentoring
• Mental health support
• Psychology, health, or social care studies
What matters most is your mindset.
We are looking for people who are naturally compassionate, emotionally resilient, curious, and committed to helping children overcome barriers and achieve things others may have thought impossible.
