Specialist SEND Learning Mentor – Complex Needs

Location: Havering, East London
Pay: £92 per day (PAYE)
Hours: Full-Time | Monday to Friday | Term Time Only
Contract: Temporary to Permanent | September Start

 

A specialist SEND school in Havering is looking for caring, patient, and dedicated individuals to join their team as Specialist SEND Learning Mentors. This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to support children with complex learning difficulties, autism, sensory needs, and medical needs within a nurturing and highly supportive environment.

Every achievement matters in this setting. Whether it's helping a pupil communicate for the first time, build confidence, regulate their emotions, or develop greater independence, you'll play a key role in their journey.

The Role

As a Specialist SEND Learning Mentor, you will provide tailored support throughout the school day, helping pupils access learning while promoting their emotional wellbeing and personal development.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support
  • Using sensory and communication strategies to encourage engagement
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation through therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches
  • Assisting with personal care where required
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other specialist professionals to ensure every pupil receives consistent, high-quality support

This role offers ongoing training, guidance, and the opportunity to develop specialist skills within SEND education.

Who We're Looking For

Previous experience in SEND is beneficial but not essential. You may have worked in:

  • Care or support work
  • Youth work or mentoring
  • Residential childcare
  • Mental health services
  • Psychology or related disciplines
  • Education or childcare settings

Most importantly, you'll be patient, adaptable, and passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
