Specialist Complex Needs Practitioner

Havering | Special School | September 2026 Start | £95 Per Day | Temporary to Permanent

Could you be the person who notices the small changes that make a huge difference to a child?

We’re working with a specialist special school in Havering that is looking for a caring, patient and committed Complex Needs Practitioner to join their team from September 2026.

This is more than a typical classroom support role. You’ll be working with pupils with complex SEND needs, helping them develop their communication, independence, confidence and ability to engage with the world around them.

For some pupils, progress might mean entering the classroom independently. For others, it could be finding a new way to communicate, managing a difficult transition or simply having a successful day because someone understood exactly what they needed.

About the Role

As a Specialist Complex Needs Practitioner, you’ll provide personalised support to pupils throughout the school day, adapting your approach around their individual needs.

You could be supporting:

  • Communication and interaction

  • Sensory needs and regulation

  • Emotional regulation and behaviour

  • Independence and life skills

  • Engagement with learning

  • Transitions and changes in routine

  • Social and emotional development

You’ll work closely with teachers, support staff and specialist professionals, following individualised strategies and helping pupils work towards their personal goals.

Every pupil will be different, so you’ll need to be observant and adaptable. What works for one child may not work for another, and you’ll be encouraged to understand each pupil as an individual.

About You

We’re looking for someone who genuinely wants to make a difference to children and young people with complex needs.

You’ll ideally have experience supporting pupils with complex SEND, whether that’s within a special school, specialist provision or a mainstream setting with significant SEND needs.

You’ll be:

  • Calm and patient, particularly when situations become challenging

  • Consistent and reliable

  • Confident adapting your approach around individual needs

  • Able to build trust with pupils who may take time to engage

  • Observant and able to recognise small changes in behaviour or communication

  • Comfortable working as part of a wider multidisciplinary team

  • Open to guidance from experienced colleagues and specialist professionals

Most importantly, you’ll understand that progress looks different for every child and that the small steps can sometimes be the biggest achievements.

About the School

This is a specialist school in Havering supporting pupils with complex additional needs.

The school takes a highly individualised approach, creating an environment where pupils are supported to develop at their own pace and in a way that works for them.

You’ll be joining a team that understands the importance of consistency, routine, patience and strong relationships, with staff working together to give every pupil the support they need.

The role is initially temporary from September, with a genuine opportunity to become permanent for the right person.
