Specialist Complex Needs Support Assistant
Location: Havering, East London
Pay: £90 per day PAYE
Full Time | Monday to Friday | Term Time Only
Temporary to Permanent Opportunity
More Than a Typical Teaching Assistant Role
Supporting children with complex needs is not about following a script. It is about understanding communication, building trust, and creating the right conditions for progress.
We are working with a specialist SEND school in Havering that supports pupils with complex learning needs, autism, sensory differences, and medical needs. Progress in this environment can look very different. It might be increased engagement, improved regulation, a new form of communication, or a child feeling secure enough to participate.
The school is seeking calm, compassionate and resilient individuals who want to develop within a specialist SEND setting.
What the Role Involves
Supporting pupils on a one to one basis and in small groups
Encouraging engagement through sensory approaches, structured routines and communication support
Assisting with personal care where required
Supporting emotional regulation using trauma informed approaches
Working closely with teachers, therapists and specialist staff as part of a collaborative team
This role can be demanding at times, but it is equally rewarding. You will be supported by an experienced team and will not be expected to manage challenges alone.
Who This Opportunity Would Suit
You may already have experience within SEND education, or you may come from backgrounds such as:
Care or support work
Youth services
Residential settings
Mental health support
Psychology or related studies
The most important qualities are patience, emotional resilience and a genuine commitment to supporting children with complex needs.
