A Specialist Role in a Secondary SEND Setting

If you are beginning to think ahead to September 2026, this could be an opportunity to take the next step within specialist education.

We are supporting a well established specialist secondary school in Havering that works with pupils who have a range of additional needs. The school provides a structured, supportive environment where young people are encouraged to build independence, confidence, and meaningful life skills alongside their academic development.

Progress in this setting is measured not only through qualifications, but through communication growth, emotional regulation, increased engagement, and preparation for adulthood.

Teaching in a Secondary Specialist Environment

As a Specialist SEND Teacher, you will work with pupils who may have autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH profiles, or complex learning needs.

Learning is carefully differentiated to ensure accessibility while maintaining high expectations. In secondary SEND, this often includes:

Developing subject specific learning in accessible formats
Supporting functional skills and accredited pathways
Embedding life skills and independence within lessons
Using structured approaches to support behaviour and regulation
Building strong, consistent relationships with young people

Collaboration is key, and you will work closely with experienced teaching assistants, therapists, and leadership to ensure joined up support.

Why This School?

A clear focus on student progress and independence
Supportive and experienced specialist staff team
Strong leadership commitment to SEND development
Ongoing professional development opportunities
A collaborative environment where staff are valued

The school promotes consistency, structure, and a shared commitment to ensuring every young person can achieve their potential.

Who This Role Would Suit

Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent
Experience within secondary or SEND settings is beneficial
A teacher who understands that behaviour is communication
Someone confident adapting curriculum content to meet diverse needs
A reflective practitioner who values progress in all forms

This opportunity would suit someone who is motivated by supporting young people to succeed both academically and personally within a specialist environment.
