More than just 1:1 support.
Some children need someone who can understand their communication, recognise when they're struggling and adapt their approach to help them feel safe and settled.
Parker Smith Inclusion is working with a small, welcoming primary school in Hutton, Brentwood, looking for experienced SEND Learning Support Assistants to support pupils with complex additional needs.
There are two opportunities available, including one position that can start ASAP.
About the Role
You'll provide dedicated 1:1 support, helping pupils access learning, communicate and manage the school day in a way that works for them.
The pupils have needs including Autism (ASC), Global Developmental Delay (GDD), communication difficulties and significant sensory and behavioural needs.
Your role will include:

Providing consistent 1:1 support.

Supporting verbal and non-verbal communication.

Helping pupils access classroom activities and learning.

Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour.

Following individual support and behaviour strategies.

Encouraging independence and confidence.

Supporting pupils who may display challenging or unsafe behaviours.

Providing personal care where required.

Working closely with the class teacher and wider team.
These roles need someone with genuine hands-on experience who can stay calm, think on their feet and adapt their approach to each child's needs.
About You
Previous experience supporting children with complex SEND is essential.

You'll need to be patient, calm, consistent and resilient, with the confidence to manage challenging situations appropriately.
Most importantly, you need to look beyond the behaviour and understand that communication, sensory needs and individual circumstances can all affect how a child responds.
