Date Posted: Monday 12 October 2026

, Ref: 14405

Location: Hutton, Brentwood
Pay: £100–£110 per day PAYE
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Start: ASAP

Some children need more than support. They need someone who understands them.

When a child struggles to communicate, becomes overwhelmed or finds the school day difficult to manage, the right support can make a huge difference.

We're looking for two experienced SEND Learning Support Assistants to join a small, welcoming primary school in Hutton, Brentwood. One position is available to start ASAP, so there's an opportunity to get started quickly.

These roles are suited to people who understand complex SEND and know that supporting every child means adapting to their individual needs, not expecting them to fit one approach.

What will the role involve?

You'll work closely with pupils who need dedicated, consistent support throughout the school day. Their needs include autism (ASC), Global Developmental Delay (GDD), communication difficulties, sensory needs and behaviours that can sometimes present a challenge.

You'll help pupils access learning, communicate their needs and feel safe and supported in the classroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day

  • Supporting verbal, non-verbal and minimally verbal communication

  • Adapting activities to help pupils engage with learning

  • Recognising sensory triggers and supporting emotional regulation

  • Following individual behaviour plans and support strategies

  • Responding calmly to challenging or unsafe behaviours

  • Supporting personal care where required

  • Encouraging independence and celebrating individual progress

You'll need to be comfortable thinking on your feet, staying consistent and working closely with the class teacher to give each pupil the best possible support.

Who are we looking for?

Hands-on experience supporting children with complex SEND is essential.

You could be an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or specialist support worker with a background in areas such as:

  • Autism and complex developmental needs

  • Non-verbal communication

  • Sensory processing needs

  • Challenging behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Personal care

  • Intensive 1:1 support

You'll need patience, resilience and the ability to remain calm when situations become difficult. Just as importantly, you'll understand that behaviour can communicate an unmet need and that consistency and trust take time to build.

What is the school like?

This is a small, one-form-entry primary school in Hutton with a close-knit team and a strong focus on inclusion.

The school is looking for people who want to become a reliable part of each pupil's day and help them make progress with communication, confidence and independence.

On-site parking is available.
