Specialist SEND Support Mentor
Location Havering, East London

More Than a Typical Support Role

Supporting children with complex needs goes beyond following instructions. It is about understanding communication, building trust, and creating the right environment for progress.

We are working with a specialist SEND school in Havering that supports pupils with complex learning needs, autism, sensory differences, and medical requirements. Progress here is measured differently. It might be a child engaging more, improving self regulation, developing a new form of communication, or feeling secure enough to take part in learning.

The school is seeking calm, compassionate, and resilient individuals who want to grow and develop within a specialist SEND setting.

What the Role Involves

  • Supporting pupils one to one and in small groups

  • Encouraging engagement through sensory approaches, structured routines, and communication support

  • Assisting with personal care when required

  • Supporting emotional regulation using trauma informed approaches

  • Collaborating closely with teachers, therapists, and specialist staff

This role can be challenging at times, but it is equally rewarding. You will be supported by an experienced team and will never be expected to manage challenges alone.
