As a Specialist Support Assistant, you understand that the right support can completely change a young person’s experience of education.
This role is about far more than assistance, it’s about enabling independence, dignity, and access to learning in a mainstream Sixth Form environment.
A large secondary school with a Sixth Form in Hackney is seeking a dedicated and experienced Specialist Support Assistant to support a 17-year-old student with physical disabilities and additional needs.
This is a highly specialised role where your consistency, professionalism, and care will make a direct impact every single day.
The Role
You’ll provide both personal care and academic support throughout the school day, ensuring the student can safely and confidently access education alongside their peers.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Supporting with personal care and manual handling using a ceiling hoist.
-
Assisting transitions throughout the day.
-
Supporting within lessons, including occasional scribing.
-
Providing support during lunch and unstructured times.
-
Offering flexible support across the wider school when needed.
This role is currently offered on a day-to-day cover/standby basis to support staff absence, with the potential for future long-term or permanent opportunities as the provision expands.
Who This Role Suits
We are looking for someone who is calm, reliable, and highly skilled in supporting students with physical disabilities.
-
Essential experience using a ceiling-mounted hoist system.
-
Previous SEN or inclusion experience highly desirable.
-
Comfortable supporting personal care needs.
-
Able to work flexibly and respond to short-notice cover requests.
-
Strong communication and professional boundaries.
Due to the personal care responsibilities involved, male applicants are encouraged to apply in line with Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) guidelines.
At Parker Smith Inclusion, we understand how important specialist support roles are. We take the time to match experienced professionals with schools where their skills are respected and valued.
This isn’t just a support role, it’s a chance to provide the consistency and care that allows a young person to thrive in education.
