Specialist Unqualified SEND Teacher - Havering

Some children need more time. More patience. More understanding. In this specialist setting based across Havering, those things are not extras, they are the foundation of everything.

From the moment you walk in, it is clear that this is a place built on relationships. Every interaction matters. Every small step forward is recognised and celebrated. The school is now looking for an Unqualified Teacher to join the team on a full time, term time basis, supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs.

The children here have complex and varied profiles, including autism, social emotional and mental health needs, severe learning difficulties, and communication differences. Some may also present with demand avoidant profiles, meaning that flexibility and trust are essential in how learning is approached.

Your role will not be about standing at the front and delivering lessons in a traditional way. Instead, you will work alongside experienced teachers and pathway leads, helping to shape learning around each child. One part of the day might involve sensory play or exploring communication through symbols and visuals, while another might focus on helping a pupil regulate their emotions or build confidence in a social interaction.

Communication sits at the heart of everything. You will support pupils using a range of approaches such as Makaton, PECS, AAC and visual supports, helping them find their voice in a way that works for them. Alongside this, therapeutic approaches are woven into daily practice, from developing language through carefully structured questioning to supporting emotional wellbeing through consistent, calming routines.

You will be part of a wider team that works closely together. Teachers, therapists and pastoral staff collaborate throughout the day, sharing insights and celebrating progress. Whether it is speech and language development or sensory integration, support is joined up and purposeful.

This is a role for someone who understands that progress does not always look the same for every child. You might already have experience working with pupils with additional needs, or you may be ready to build on your current skills in a more specialist environment. What matters most is your ability to stay patient, adaptable and genuinely invested in each child’s journey.

In return, the school offers a supportive and welcoming environment where staff development is taken seriously. There are regular training opportunities, including approaches focused on wellbeing, behaviour and safeguarding, alongside clear pathways for progression. Practical benefits include a pension scheme, onsite parking, uniform, meals and access to private healthcare after a year of service.

If you are looking for a role where you can make a real difference, where relationships come first and where no two days are ever quite the same, this could be the right next step.
