Unqualified Teacher (SEND Specialist School)
Location: Havering, London
Pay: £24000 - £37000
Start Date: ASAP / To be agreed
Contract: Full-time, term time only
A specialist school in Havering is seeking a committed and adaptable Unqualified Teacher to join their dedicated team. This is a permanent, full-time, term-time role supporting pupils with a wide range of complex additional needs.
This is a setting where relationships come first. Every interaction matters, and every small step of progress is recognised and valued. The school supports children and young people with autism, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), severe learning difficulties, communication differences, and demand avoidant profiles. Flexibility, patience and a trauma-informed approach are essential.
You will not be delivering traditional whole-class teaching. Instead, you will work closely with experienced teachers, therapists and pathway leads to deliver highly personalised learning experiences tailored to each child. This may include sensory-based learning, communication activities using symbols and visuals, emotional regulation support, and confidence-building through structured interaction.
Communication is central to the role. You will support pupils using a range of approaches including Makaton, PECS, AAC and visual supports, helping them develop their ability to express themselves in meaningful ways. Therapeutic approaches are embedded throughout the school day, supporting both learning and emotional wellbeing.
You will be part of a highly collaborative team where staff work closely to share insight, celebrate progress, and ensure each pupil receives joined-up, consistent support.
This role would suit someone with experience in SEND or someone looking to develop their career in a specialist environment. The most important qualities are resilience, empathy, adaptability and a genuine commitment to supporting children with additional needs.
In return, the school offers:
- Ongoing training and professional development
- Supportive multi-disciplinary team environment
- Pension scheme
- Onsite parking
- Meals and uniform provided
- Access to private healthcare after 1 year of service
If you are looking for a role where no two days are the same and where you can make a genuine difference every day, this could be the perfect next step.
