Speech & Language Teaching Assistant - Camden
£95–£110 per day, depending on experience
Camden, Central London
Full-time | Long-term
I am recruiting a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant for an inclusive school in Camden, supporting pupils who need additional help with communication, language development and classroom interaction.
This would be particularly interesting for someone who enjoys the communication side of SEND and wants a role where support goes beyond simply completing classroom work.
You could already be working as a SEN Teaching Assistant, Communication Support Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or SEND Teaching Assistant, or you may be a graduate considering a longer-term career in speech and language therapy.
The role
Working alongside teaching and SEND staff, you will help pupils develop the communication skills they need to participate more confidently in school.
Your responsibilities may include:
-
Delivering individual and small-group communication activities
-
Supporting receptive and expressive language
-
Helping pupils understand classroom instructions
-
Encouraging vocabulary and sentence development
-
Modelling clear communication
-
Using visual resources where appropriate
-
Helping pupils participate in conversations and group activities
-
Supporting social communication
-
Feeding observations back to teaching and SEND staff
You will also support pupils within lessons, helping strategies used during targeted intervention carry over into everyday classroom situations.
Who would suit this role?
Essential:
-
Experience working with children or young people
-
Strong spoken and written communication
-
Patience and good listening skills
-
The ability to follow structured interventions
-
A genuine interest in communication and SEND
Desirable:
-
Speech, language and communication needs experience
-
Autism experience
-
Previous SEN TA or LSA experience
-
Psychology, linguistics, education or related degree
-
Experience delivering intervention programmes
Why consider this opportunity?
This is a particularly useful role for someone who wants to develop specialist SEND experience.
Rather than working broadly across every area of classroom support, you will gain greater exposure to how communication difficulties affect learning, confidence, behaviour and social interaction.
It could also provide valuable experience for someone considering future training within speech and language therapy, educational psychology, teaching or SEND.
