Locum Speech and Language Therapist – Band 6

North West London | Full time, term time only | ASAP Start | £32,000 - £45,000

Step into a specialist environment where your clinical insight directly shapes how learners connect, express themselves and engage with the world. You will support a diverse cohort with varied communication profiles, using approaches that truly make a difference in their day-to-day school experience.

You’re a thoughtful, organised practitioner with substantial paediatric experience, ideally including work with autism, neurodevelopmental needs and complex communication profiles. You are HCPC-registered band 6 or a band 5 therapist progressing toward band 6, confident with assessment, differential diagnosis and evidence-based intervention. You have experience supervising others and contributing to service design. You enjoy thinking at a system level, considering pathways, outcomes, quality and the family experience. You value neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based practice and want to embed meaningful communication strategies throughout the school.

What the role involves:

• Supporting secondary-aged pupils with varied communication needs, including those with autism and complex profiles.
• Working closely within a dedicated SALT team including a therapy assistant and SALT lead who value collaboration, shared problem-solving and professional support.
• Stepping into an established role with a full handover, giving you continuity and the foundation to build on existing good practice.
• Delivering targeted intervention, contributing to EHCP outcomes and modelling communication strategies that empower staff across the school.

The environment:

• A specialist setting supporting young people with significant learning needs, autism, medical needs and diverse communication profiles.
• A community that prioritises inclusion, individual pathways and preparing students for independence, adulthood and meaningful lifelong skills.
• A strong, connected multidisciplinary approach, with therapy, teaching and pastoral teams working closely to meet each learner’s holistic needs.
• An ethos rooted in understanding, respect and celebrating neurodiversity, ensuring pupils feel safe, known and supported.
• A structured and well-established therapy framework that provides stability, professional guidance and opportunities for development.

Requirements:

• Band 6 HCPC-registered Speech & Language Therapist, or an experienced Band 5 working confidently toward Band 6
• Substantial paediatric experience, ideally including autism, neurodevelopmental needs and complex communication profiles
• Strong skills in assessment, differential diagnosis and evidence-based intervention
• Experience supervising others and contributing to service improvement or design
• Confidence in system-level thinking: pathways, outcomes, quality measures and family experience
• A commitment to neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based practice
