Some roles focus on throughput. This one focuses on progress, dignity and communication that genuinely changes lives.
I am working with a highly specialist post-16 SEND provision supporting young adults aged 19–25 with severe and complex learning needs, including PMLD, SLD and Autism, alongside physical disabilities, sensory impairments and significant communication differences. Many students are non-verbal, medically complex, or require specialist feeding and swallowing support.
This setting is built around the belief that every young person can make meaningful progress, when therapy is embedded, consistent and respected. Speech and Language Therapy is not an add-on here. It sits at the heart of daily practice.
The setting
This is a specialist college environment supporting young adults across a range of personalised pathways, including life skills, independence, engagement and vocational preparation. Students present with complex communication profiles, sensory processing differences, dysregulation, physical needs and long-term health considerations.
Therapy is fully integrated into education, care and daily routines. You will work closely with teaching teams, support staff, families and other therapists to ensure communication strategies are lived, not laminated.
The role
I am recruiting a qualified and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to deliver an onsite SALT service and to work alongside a Head of Therapy to further develop and strengthen provision.
This is a senior, autonomous role with real influence.
Day to day, I will expect you to:
- Assess and support young adults with complex communication needs, including non-verbal profiles
- Develop and implement individualised communication plans and AAC approaches
- Lead on dysphagia management across the provision, maintaining competencies and clinical standards
- Act as Dysphagia Lead, advising staff and shaping safe practice
- Embed communication strategies into classrooms, life skills sessions and daily routines
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary therapy team
- Support staff through training, modelling and consultation
- Contribute to EHCP outcomes and long-term independence goals
The reality
This is not a light-touch role. Students have profound and multiple needs. Progress can be slow, nuanced and deeply meaningful rather than headline-grabbing. Dysphagia responsibility requires confidence, accountability and clinical rigour.
The reward is seeing young adults communicate on their own terms, develop agency and be understood by the world around them.
This role is right for you if
- You are a qualified Speech and Language Therapist with HCPC registration
- You have at least two years’ experience in a specialist SEND setting
- You have strong experience with PMLD, SLD and Autism
- You are confident and competent supporting dysphagia and maintaining those competencies
- You are comfortable working with non-verbal young people and complex communication profiles
- You value teamwork, reflection and shared responsibility
- You believe deeply that young adults with complex SEND deserve high-quality, specialist therapy
This role will not suit therapists seeking short-term placements, minimal responsibility, or roles without emotional investment.
What is offered
- A genuinely supportive therapy team with experienced leadership
- Time and space to practise therapy properly
- Strong induction, ongoing CPD and specialist training
- Term-time working with additional holiday weeks
- Employee wellbeing benefits including EAP and healthcare access
- Ethical, values-led SEND environment
Safeguarding and recruitment approach
This role requires an enhanced DBS with adult barring. Safeguarding and dignity are central to the culture of this provision.
PS Inclusion is an ethical SEND specialist recruitment consultancy. We work PAYE only, prioritising transparency, long-term fit and safeguarding over volume or speed.
