Working Pattern: Full-time, Term-Time only - (Could intiially start on a temporary contract trnasisiting permanent after 2 terms)

We are working with a highly regarded specialist SEND school in Merton seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of special educational needs, helping them access learning, develop confidence and achieve their full potential.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils throughout the school day, both within lessons and during unstructured times, helping to create a safe, engaging and productive learning environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEND, behavioural and learning needs
  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and engage positively in learning activities
  • Assisting teachers with the preparation of learning resources and classroom organisation
  • Promoting pupils' social, emotional and intellectual development
  • Implementing individual learning plans, behaviour support plans and personalised strategies
  • Supporting behaviour regulation and encouraging positive choices using agreed school approaches
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents/carers and external professionals
  • Monitoring pupil progress and maintaining accurate records, including behaviour and observation logs
  • Encouraging independence, self-esteem and confidence in learning
  • Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes and other unstructured periods
  • Assisting with the supervision of internal and external examinations where required
  • Contributing to a purposeful, safe and inclusive learning environment

What We're Looking For

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH or behavioural needs
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to remain resilient and consistent when supporting pupils with additional needs
  • A proactive and flexible attitude towards learning and behaviour support
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • An interest in continuing professional development and developing knowledge of SEND best practice
