Are you passionate about supporting young people with autism and sensory processing needs? Do you want to make a meaningful difference to their daily learning, wellbeing, and development?

We are seeking a dedicated and nurturing Autism Teaching Assistant to join a forward-thinking specialist school in Mole Valley, Surrey. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a setting that places a strong emphasis on individualised support, emotional regulation, and sensory wellbeing.

We have a close relationship with the SLT at this school and are looking to organise interviews ASAP. You must be available for interviews immediately.

About the School:

This specialist setting supports pupils aged 11–19 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and a wide range of sensory needs. The school provides a structured, calm, and nurturing environment where students receive tailored education and sensory-informed support to help them thrive both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with autism and sensory needs

  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering personalised, autism-friendly learning

  • Support pupils with sensory regulation, communication, and emotional understanding

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff

  • Help create an inclusive, calm, predictable, and safe learning environment

What You’ll Get:

  • A warm, supportive, and collaborative team environment

  • Small class sizes

  • Access to multi-disciplinary support (therapists, sensory specialists, pastoral staff)

  • Ongoing professional development and autism-specific training

  • Opportunity to train as a teacher after one year of service

  • A clear pathway for career progression within autism and SEN education

  • Teacher training opportunities for graduates after one year

About You:

  • Experience working with children or young people with autism and/or sensory processing needs

  • Ability to remain calm and regulated, understanding that distressed or challenging language often stems from sensory overload or communication difficulties

  • Individuals from backgrounds such as police, youth work, gang intervention, security, or similar fields are encouraged to apply, as strong character skills and emotional resilience are highly valuable

  • A calm, compassionate, and patient approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • A genuine passion for autism inclusion and neurodiversity-affirming practice

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Psychology Degree, Youth Work) are desirable but not essential
