Therapeutic Teaching Assistant (SEMH Focus)

Barnet, North London
£90 – £100 PAYE per day | Long-term to Permanent | Asap or Easter Start

Are you someone who genuinely wants to change the trajectory of a young person’s life?

We are partnering with a forward-thinking therapeutic school in Barnet that does things differently. This setting prioritises emotional safety, trust, and connection before anything else—creating a space where students who have struggled in mainstream education can finally feel understood.

If you’re looking for a role where every day is purposeful, challenging, and deeply rewarding, this could be exactly what you’ve been searching for.

What makes this school special?

This is more than just a school, it’s a therapeutic community.

Students here may have experienced trauma, exclusion, or long-term barriers to learning. The staff team works collaboratively to rebuild confidence, develop emotional regulation, and re-engage pupils with education in a meaningful way.

You won’t just be supporting learning—you’ll be helping young people feel safe, valued, and capable again.

Your role

As a Therapeutic Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support students aged 11–19 with SEMH needs, including ADHD, Autism, anxiety, and trauma-related behaviours

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to provide consistent, joined-up support

  • Help students regulate emotions and engage positively with learning

  • Build strong, trusting relationships that encourage personal growth

  • Provide support both in lessons and during less structured parts of the day

Who would thrive in this role?

We are particularly interested in individuals who are:

  • Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Education, or Social Sciences

  • Aspiring teachers, therapists, or educational psychologists

  • Experienced in youth work, care settings, or supporting vulnerable young people

  • Calm under pressure, emotionally intelligent, and naturally empathetic

  • Passionate about trauma-informed and restorative approaches

Additional strengths such as sport, music, drama, or creative arts are highly valued and can really enhance your impact in this setting.

Why this opportunity stands out

  • Long-term role with a clear pathway to a permanent position

  • Work within a highly supportive, therapeutic team environment

  • Ongoing training and professional development tailored to your career goals

  • Valuable experience for careers in education, mental health, and psychology

  • The chance to make a genuine, lasting difference every single day
