Some young people need more than a traditional classroom.

They need a teacher who can look beyond behaviour, understand the experiences that shape it and create an environment where they feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Parker Smith Inclusion is working in partnership with a therapeutic specialist SEN school in Chelmsford that is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Therapeutic Nurture Teacher to join its team.

The school supports young people across Key Stages 3 and 4 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside additional needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Dyslexia and speech, language and communication needs.

Many pupils have experienced challenges that have affected their relationship with education. They need consistency, patience and a nurturing approach that helps them rebuild trust, develop emotional regulation and recognise their own potential.

This is an opportunity to join a setting where relationships come first, learning is personalised and emotional wellbeing is central to every pupil's progress.

The Role

As a Therapeutic Nurture Teacher, you'll deliver engaging, individualised lessons that support pupils academically, socially and emotionally.

You'll create a structured and supportive classroom environment, using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches to help pupils overcome barriers to learning. Working closely with the wider team, you'll help each young person develop confidence, resilience and the skills they need to move forward.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons for KS3 and KS4 pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Adapting learning to meet individual needs, including ADHD, ASC, attachment difficulties, PTSD and mild to moderate learning difficulties.

  • Creating a safe, consistent and nurturing classroom environment where pupils feel understood and valued.

  • Using therapeutic, relationship-led and trauma-informed approaches to support emotional regulation.

  • Building positive relationships and helping pupils develop trust, confidence and independence.

  • Supporting pupils' social and emotional development alongside their academic progress.

  • Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and the wider multidisciplinary team.

  • Contributing to personalised learning plans and strategies that support each pupil's individual needs.

About You

We're looking for a teacher who understands that behaviour is a form of communication and that meaningful learning starts with strong relationships.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS).

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH and/or Autism.

  • An understanding of therapeutic approaches, emotional regulation and trauma-informed practice.

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach when supporting pupils through challenging moments.

  • The ability to adapt teaching to meet a range of learning, communication and emotional needs.

  • A genuine passion for helping young people rebuild confidence and re-engage with education.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive PAYE rates of £150–£215 per day, in line with M1–M6 Fringe salary.

  • An ASAP start within a specialist therapeutic setting.

  • A temp-to-perm opportunity for those looking to build a long-term career within the school.

  • A supportive team committed to pupil wellbeing and individual progress.

  • The opportunity to develop your experience in therapeutic and specialist SEMH education.

  • A rewarding role where your consistency, compassion and teaching can make a lasting difference.
