SEMH Outreach Mentor
London | Immediate Start | £130 per day PAYE
Your first session might be in a park.
The next could be in a café.
A week later, you might be the first professional a young person has trusted in months.
This isn't a school-based role. It isn't a classroom support role. And it definitely isn't a role where every day looks the same.
We're working with a specialist outreach service that supports young people who have become disconnected from education. Some haven't attended school for years. Some have experienced trauma, exploitation, violence, or significant challenges that have made traditional education impossible.
The service believes something simple:
No young person is beyond reach.
And that's where you come in.
The Role
You'll work one-to-one with young people across London, helping them rebuild confidence, develop trust, and take their first steps back towards education.
For some, success might mean attending a session for the first time.
For others, it might mean learning how to regulate emotions, build healthy relationships, or walk through the doors of a school again.
Progress isn't always measured in grades. Sometimes it's measured in conversations, consistency and small breakthroughs that change everything.
Who You'll Be Supporting
The young people accessing this service often have:
- SEMH needs
- Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC)
- Histories of school avoidance or exclusion
- Experiences of trauma or adverse childhood experiences
- Difficulties with emotional regulation
- Complex family and social circumstances
Many have spent years hearing about what they can't do.
You'll be part of showing them what they can.
What Makes This Different?
This service doesn't give up on young people.
Instead of expecting learners to fit into a system that hasn't worked for them, the team adapts around the individual.
The results speak for themselves.
Young people who once refused all educational engagement have returned to learning. Others have moved into specialist provisions, employment pathways, apprenticeships and positive futures that once seemed impossible.
The work is challenging.
It's unpredictable.
It's emotionally demanding.
But for the right person, it's also one of the most rewarding roles you'll ever do.
You Might Be Right For This If...
- You naturally build rapport with young people
- You stay calm when others don't
- You understand that behaviour is communication
- You have experience in SEMH, SEND, youth work, social care, outreach, mentoring or alternative provision
- You're resilient, patient and genuinely invested in helping young people succeed
- You're happy travelling across London as part of your working day
What You'll Get
- £130 per day PAYE
- Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm
- Travel expenses covered during working hours
- Lunch expenses reimbursed
- Ongoing support from an experienced therapeutic team
- The chance to change the direction of a young person's life
Not everyone can do this role.
But if you've ever wanted a career where relationships matter more than paperwork, where impact matters more than targets, and where no two days are ever the same, we'd love to hear from you.
