This Children’s Therapy Assistant job in North West London is based within a highly specialist SEN school in Brent, supporting pupils aged 3–19 with a wide range of additional needs including autism, complex physical and medical needs, Down’s syndrome, and other developmental or learning disabilities.

Working on-site, the team collaborates closely with class staff to ensure EHCP assessments are completed effectively and that every pupil’s provision is delivered in line with recommendations. You will play a key role in supporting this joined-up approach, helping to create consistent, high-quality outcomes for every learner.
As a Therapy Assistant in this setting, you will gain hands-on experience across both Speech & Language Therapy (SALT) and Occupational Therapy (OT), delivering tailored interventions that support communication, independence, and engagement both in and out of the classroom.
The caseload is broad and varied, giving you exposure to a wide range of needs and approaches. It is rare to find this level of integrated therapeutic provision within a school, making this an excellent opportunity for professional development. Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver 1:1 and small group therapy sessions across SALT and OT programmes
• Support pupils with autism, communication needs, sensory differences, and complex needs
• Use visuals, AAC devices, and sensory equipment to support learning and independence
• Adapt interventions in line with EHCP targets and therapist recommendations
• Record observations and contribute to progress tracking and reports
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, SENCOs, and families to ensure consistency
Requirements:
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND or communication needs
• Strong communication skills and ability to adapt to individual needs
• Patient, proactive, and organised approach
• Genuine interest in therapy, SEN education, or child development
• Ability to build positive relationships and support engagement
Desirable (Not Essential):
• Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, Child Development, or similar
• Experience with SALT tools (Makaton, PECS, AAC)
• Understanding of OT approaches (sensory circuits, fine motor skills)
• Experience supporting pupils with complex needs, ASD, or physical disabilities
