Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor
Location: Brent, North West London
Pay: £90–£110 per day (PAYE only) depending on experience
Contract: Full-time, term-time only, temporary to permanent
Do you believe that when a young person feels safe, their behaviour starts to change?
You won’t just be supporting behaviour. You’ll be helping rebuild trust, restore confidence, and create the foundations for a brighter future.
A Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Brent is looking for a Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor to support secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.
This is a role for someone who understands that behaviour is rarely the real issue. Behind the anger, shutdowns, refusal or disruption, there is often a young person carrying experiences they don’t yet have the words for.
The role
As a Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor, you will be a steady and reassuring presence throughout the school day. You will support pupils in lessons, during transitions, and in unstructured times where emotions can run high.
You will provide targeted 1:1 and small group mentoring focused on emotional regulation, behaviour support, confidence and social development. You will use restorative and de-escalation approaches to help pupils manage difficult moments, while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.
You will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to contribute to behaviour plans, personalised interventions and reintegration goals, ensuring pupils receive consistent support from every adult around them.
Who this role suits
This role is ideal for someone who has experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, trauma, behavioural challenges or complex emotional profiles. You may come from youth work, mentoring, care, alternative provision, residential settings, or pastoral support.
You will be calm, resilient and emotionally intelligent, with the ability to remain grounded when pupils are dysregulated. You will understand the importance of attachment, consistency and trust, and you will be committed to helping young people move forward, even when progress is gradual.
This is not a passive classroom role. It’s for someone who wants to be present, involved, and part of a team that believes every young person deserves another chance.
