Date Posted: Wednesday 18 February 2026

, Ref: 11711

Location: Hounslow, West London
Pay: £90–£110 per day (PAYE only), dependent on experience
Contract: Full-time, term-time only

When a young person feels understood, not judged, real change can begin.

This role is not about simply responding to behaviour. It is about connection, consistency, and helping young people feel safe enough to re-engage with education.

A specialist alternative education setting in Hounslow is looking to appoint a Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor to work with secondary-aged pupils who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and complex behavioural challenges.

Many of these young people have experienced disrupted education, unstable relationships, or significant emotional adversity. Their behaviour is often a form of communication rather than defiance. This role is for someone who recognises that and is skilled in responding with empathy, structure, and clear boundaries.

The Role
As a Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor, you will support pupils across the school day, including in lessons, during movement between sessions, and in less structured periods where regulation can be more difficult.

You will provide targeted 1:1 and small group mentoring focused on emotional regulation, resilience, behaviour strategies, and positive relationship building. You will use restorative, trauma-aware, and de-escalation approaches to help pupils manage heightened emotions and make safer choices.

You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and leadership to support individual behaviour plans, contribute to personalised interventions, and help pupils work towards reintegration and long-term engagement with learning.

Who This Role Is For
This position would suit someone with experience in SEMH, alternative provision, youth work, mentoring, care, residential settings, or pastoral and inclusion support.

You will be calm under pressure, emotionally literate, and able to remain consistent when pupils are distressed or dysregulated. You understand that progress may be slow and non-linear, and you are committed to being a steady, reliable adult presence.

This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to actively support change, not observe it from the sidelines.

Full-time, term-time only role
Temporary to permanent opportunity

Why This Role Makes a Difference
For many young people, school has become a place of conflict rather than safety. In this role, you will help reshape that experience by offering consistency, understanding, and belief.

You will be part of a team that prioritises relationships, understands the impact of trauma, and is committed to improving long-term outcomes for vulnerable learners.
