Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor
Location: Hounslow, West London
Pay: £90–£110 per day (PAYE only), depending on experience
Contract: Full-time, term-time only | Temporary to Permanent
Do you believe that when a young person feels safe, their behaviour begins to change?
This role goes beyond behaviour management. It is about rebuilding trust, restoring confidence, and helping young people reconnect with learning and with themselves.
A specialist alternative provision setting in Hounslow is seeking a Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor to support secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.
This position suits someone who understands that behaviour is communication. Behind anger, withdrawal, refusal, or disruption is often a young person navigating experiences they may not yet know how to express.
The Role
As a Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor, you will provide a consistent, calm, and reassuring presence throughout the school day. You will support pupils during lessons, transitions, and unstructured periods where emotional regulation can be most challenging.
You will deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group mentoring focused on emotional regulation, confidence-building, behaviour support, and social development. Using restorative approaches and de-escalation strategies, you will help pupils navigate difficult moments while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.
Working alongside teachers and pastoral teams, you will contribute to behaviour plans, personalised interventions, and reintegration pathways to ensure joined-up, consistent support across the setting.
Who This Role Suits
This opportunity is ideal for someone with experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, trauma-related behaviours, or complex emotional profiles. You may have worked in youth work, mentoring, care settings, alternative provision, residential care, or pastoral support.
You will be emotionally intelligent, resilient, and able to stay calm when pupils are dysregulated. You understand the importance of attachment, consistency, and trust, and you are committed to helping young people make progress at their own pace.
This is not a passive classroom role. It is suited to someone who wants to be proactive, relational, and part of a team focused on long-term impact.
