Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor

Location: Camden, North London
Pay: £90–£110 per day (PAYE only) depending on experience
Contract: Full-time, term-time only, temporary to permanent

Do you believe that when a young person feels safe, their behaviour begins to change?

This role is about more than behaviour management. It’s about rebuilding trust, restoring confidence, and helping young people rediscover their potential.

A specialist alternative provision setting in Camden is seeking a Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor to support secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.

This is a role for someone who understands that behaviour is rarely the real issue. Behind anger, withdrawal, refusal, or disruption is often a young person carrying experiences they don’t yet have the words to explain.

The Role

As a Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor, you will be a consistent and reassuring presence throughout the school day. You will support pupils in lessons, during transitions, and in unstructured times where emotions can run high.

You will deliver targeted 1:1 and small group mentoring focused on emotional regulation, behaviour support, confidence, and social development. Using restorative and de-escalation approaches, you will help pupils navigate difficult moments while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.

You will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to contribute to behaviour plans, personalised interventions, and reintegration goals, ensuring pupils receive consistent, joined-up support.

Who This Role Suits

This position is ideal for someone with experience supporting young people with SEMH needs, trauma, behavioural challenges, or complex emotional profiles. You may have a background in youth work, mentoring, care, alternative provision, residential settings, or pastoral support.

You will be calm, resilient, and emotionally intelligent, with the ability to stay grounded when pupils are dysregulated. You understand the importance of attachment, consistency, and trust, and you are committed to helping young people move forward, even when progress is gradual.

This is not a passive classroom role. It is for someone who wants to be present, proactive, and part of a team that believes every young person deserves another chance.

What’s on Offer

  • £90–£110 per day, depending on experience
  • PAYE only (no umbrella companies)
  • Full-time, term-time position
  • Temporary to permanent pathway
  • Ongoing training in SEMH, trauma-informed practice, and behaviour support
  • Supportive leadership and strong staff culture
  • Long-term progression within specialist and alternative education

Why This Role Matters

For some pupils, education has felt like rejection. As a Trauma-Informed Behaviour Mentor in Camden, you will help create a different experience - one built on safety, consistency, and belief.

You will be part of a setting that focuses on relationships first, understands trauma, and is committed to changing life outcomes for vulnerable young people.
