Trauma-Informed Mentor
Location: East London
Start date: September 2026
Contract: Long-term with a permanent opportunity
Salary: £95 - £120 per day (dependent on experience)
Maximising potential through life-enriching learning.
As a Trauma-Informed Mentor, you understand the profound impact that relationships, consistency, and emotional safety can have on a young person's ability to thrive. Imagine providing that support within a specialist setting where every interaction is meaningful, every success is celebrated, and a dedicated team works together to help vulnerable learners build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
A specialist school is offering an exciting opportunity to join their dynamic team from 2026, with the potential for this position to become permanent for the right person.
The Role
As a Trauma-Informed Mentor, you will support children and young people aged 6 to 18 with a range of needs, including Autism, SEMH, trauma, experiences of neglect, and mental health needs. Working closely with teaching staff, therapists, and families, you will provide consistent, relational support that enables students to regulate, engage in learning, and develop positive relationships with others.
Rather than focusing solely on behaviour, you will seek to understand the underlying needs behind a student's actions, helping them feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build trusting, therapeutic relationships with students through a trauma-informed and attachment-aware approach.
- Provide emotional and behavioural support to help students develop self-regulation, resilience, and social communication skills.
- Support students throughout the school day, including in lessons, during transitions, and within intervention sessions.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families, and external professionals to ensure holistic support for each learner.
- Contribute to personalised support plans and monitor progress against individual targets and EHCP outcomes.
- Promote independence, self-esteem, and positive wellbeing through consistent and nurturing practice.
What We're Looking For:
- Experience working with children or young people with Autism, SEMH, trauma, mental health needs, or those who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
- A compassionate, patient, and resilient individual with a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to remain calm, reflective, and supportive in challenging situations.
- A genuine commitment to helping young people overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.
In Return, You'll Enjoy:
- A permanent, full-time role within a respected and nurturing specialist provision.
- Access to specialist resources, therapeutic support, and a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team.
- High-quality training and ongoing professional development in trauma-informed practice, SEMH, and SEND.
- Strong leadership support and opportunities for career progression.
- A values-driven school culture where your work has a visible and lasting impact on the lives of young people.
