Are you experienced in supporting young people with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs? Do you believe that strong relationships, structure and consistency can change a young person’s direction?

A specialist Pupil Referral Unit in Brent is seeking a full-time Trauma-Informed Youth Support Mentor to work with secondary-aged pupils who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

About the role

You will play a key role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom. Working closely with teaching and pastoral teams, you will:

Provide consistent 1:1 and small group mentoring
Support pupils during lessons and unstructured times
Implement behaviour and risk management plans
Use restorative and de-escalation strategies
Promote emotional regulation, resilience and positive engagement

This is a hands-on role within alternative provision. You will need to be confident, calm under pressure and able to maintain firm, professional boundaries while building positive relationships.

PRUs or alternative provision
SEMH specialist settings
Youth work or mentoring
Residential care or children’s homes
Pastoral or behaviour support roles in secondary schools
Prisons or Youth Offender Institutions

If you have worked in custodial settings and understand behaviour management, conflict resolution and the importance of consistency, your experience is highly transferable and valued in this environment.
