Unqualified SEN Early Years Teaching Assistant

Shepherd's Bush, Hammersmith & Fulham
Mainstream primary school with dedicated EYFS SEN provision
Supporting Reception children with Autism/ASC and complex needs
£90 – £100 PAYE per day;
Full-time (term time only), ASAP start

This is a specialist Early Years SEN Teaching Assistant role within a Reception setting, supporting children with high needs, Autism and complex developmental profiles.

The provision supports a small group of children who are predominantly pre-verbal, with significant communication and sensory needs. All children have a diagnosis of Autism and require a highly structured, nurturing and consistent approach to access learning.

Some children communicate using visuals, PECS or communication devices. Some may experience dysregulation linked to anxiety or sensory processing differences. You will need to be calm, emotionally steady and able to support children through moments of distress with patience and understanding.

You will be working within a small alternative provision space inside the Reception setting, alongside experienced staff who understand specialist early years practice. High staff ratios allow for personalised support and meaningful interaction.

Your day may include:

  • Supporting early communication and interaction
  • Delivering structured play-based learning activities
  • Assisting with sensory regulation strategies
  • Supporting personal care where required
  • Building consistent, trusting relationships
  • Encouraging early social development and independence

This role requires determination, warmth, resilience and a genuine interest in SEND. There is a lot to learn, and this position would suit someone seeking a long-term opportunity in specialist education.

It is ideal for someone considering a future career in educational psychology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, teaching or specialist SEND support. Personal or professional experience with Autism or complex needs would be highly beneficial.

This is not a general classroom TA role. It is a purposeful, hands-on position supporting children at a crucial stage of their development.
