Location: Twickenham, South West London
Contract Type: Full-Time 1-year fixed contract - Permanent potential offer after a year
Salary: £90 - £100 per day PAYE (dependent on experience)
Start Date: 1st of September 2025
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with Autism and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
We are looking for a resilient, compassionate, and proactive Autism Behaviour Mentor / Teaching Assistant to join our specialist Nurture Class. This vital role supports students with Autism who may present challenging behaviours such as biting, self-injury, and sensory dysregulation, as well as pupils with broader SEMH needs.
Your Role Will Include:
- Providing consistent 1:1 and small-group support to students in a nurturing, trauma-informed environment
- Implementing personalised behaviour and sensory regulation strategies
- Working closely with the SEND Teachers, therapists, and teaching staff to deliver tailored interventions
- Building trusting relationships with students, helping them feel safe, understood, and empowered to learn
- De-escalating behaviour safely using positive behaviour support techniques
- 8am - 3:30pm (one day a week you will work 4pm)
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Has experience working with children or young people with Autism and/or SEMH
- Remains calm under pressure and shows empathy in challenging situations
- Understands sensory needs and how they impact learning and behaviour
- Is committed to inclusion and believes every child can thrive with the right support
- Has MAPA training (or is willing to be trained)
- Someone with a background as a SEND TA in a school/PRU/Provision or someone who has worked with young people in correctional facilities
- If you have a background in the police, youth centres, prisons, you are also welcome to apply.
